Facelift Myths Revealed
Despite the fact that the facelift procedure remains among the most sought after plastic surgery procedures, there are many facelift myths that exist. Learn the truth behind the most common facelift myths before you decide whether or not to have plastic surgery. The following are the top three facelift surgery myths.Facelift Myth #1: When you have a facelift procedure, you will have scars
This facelift myth was initially based on truth. The initial facelift procedure did leave a scar in front of the ear that was sometimes noticeable and bothersome. However, advances in plastic surgery technique have allowed for incisions to be smaller and less noticeable. In fact, most plastic surgeons that perform the facelift procedure now place incisions in more discreet locations such as, behind the ear. For this reason, this myth regarding facelifts is now false.
Facelift Myth #2: The facelift procedure just pulls the facial skin tight
One common problem of aging is sagging skin and when you elect to have a facelift this problem will be taken care of. However, for a facelift to provide longer more lasting results the muscles under the skin need to be tightened as well. Most facelift procedures include removal of excess skin, tightening of the underlying structure, and a small amount of liposuction along the jaw line. So, as you can see this facelift myth is false.
Facelift Myth #3: Once you have one facelift procedure you have to have another in a few years
Despite the fact that many facelift patients do have a repeat facelift procedure, several years after their initial procedure, this is not necessary. In fact, most doctors and cosmetic surgery experts recommend patients having just one facelift procedure. The initial procedure will turn back the clock several years and even though it does not halt aging you will continue to look younger than your chronological age in most cases. So, this facelift myth is false.
