Some mistakes are no longer permanent
Tattoo removal is becoming increasingly common and technology is keeping pace. Older techniques, which often leave unsightly scarring, have been replaced with laser technology—the gold standard of tattoo removal.
At The Plastic Surgery Center, we use the state-of-the-art PicoWay™ laser system to remove tattoos. Our picosecond laser has three distinct wavelengths (532 nm, 785 nm, and 1064 nm), which allow our specialists to target all colors and tattoo types, including tattoos that have failed removal in the past. The PicoWay™ laser’s ultra-short pulses break the tattoo pigment into tiny particles for the body to remove naturally.
The number of treatments will vary depending on the size, color, and location of the tattoo. Results can be seen as quickly as after 1 treatment, but often require multiple treatments spaced out every 6 weeks for optimal results. With the PicoWay™ laser system, desired results can happen sooner than laser treatments of the past.
Benefits of the PicoWay™ laser for tattoo removal:
- Minimal risk of side effects
- Treats a range of ink colors including red, orange, and dark inks (black, blue and green)
- Dramatic results after several treatments
- Safe and effective way to remove tattoos
- No downtime
Although no anesthesia is required, topical anesthetic can be requested on sensitive areas. Pain tolerance varies, but many describe the treatment as a rubber band snap to the skin. After the procedure, treated skin may appear slightly red or develop some crusting, but these symptoms resolve within days. Normal activities can be resumed immediately following the treatment.
