An ideal candidate for laser tattoo removal is a person in good physical health with realistic expectations. While we can treat almost any patient, not all tattoos can be removed completely. The color, location, and age of your tattoo will impact the outcome. Tattoos that have black ink, are several years old, and aren’t dense are the easiest to remove. Additionally, those with fair skin tend to yield better, faster results.

During the consultation, your surgeon will thoroughly evaluate your medical history, skin type, and tattoo. They will use this information to determine whether you’re a good candidate for laser tattoo removal and how many sessions you may need.

What to Expect

Laser tattoo removal is an in-office procedure. During treatment, your specialist will use the PicoWay™ laser to deliver ultra-short, high-powered pulses of energy to the tattoo, shattering the pigment into minuscule particles that the body can naturally clear away. Although no anesthesia is required, a topical anesthetic can be applied to sensitive areas.

Pain tolerance varies, but many describe the treatment as a rubber band snap to the skin. After the procedure, the area is covered with an antibiotic ointment and bandage. The treated skin may appear slightly red or develop some crusting, but these symptoms resolve within days. Normal activities can be resumed immediately following the treatment.
