Responsibilities

  • Provides genetics counseling and education to individuals with a family history of cancer.
  • Provide patient assessment and counseling, including obtain and review medical records, perform literature review, take family history, risk assessment, education, coordinate genetic testing, disseminate test results, assess mental and emotional status.
  • Provide referral to appropriate medical specialists and support services and consult with referring health care providers.
  • Assist with the administrative and organizational tasks necessary to the functioning of the Genetics Program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in medical Genetics/Counseling including clinical experience from an accredited genetics counseling training program.
  • Board certification by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) or American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG) or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of genetics and genomics and the ability to interpret complex genetic test results.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical individuals.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
