The ideal gender affirming body procedure candidate is a person above 18 years of age in good mental and physical health who wishes to change their body’s proportions to affirm their gender identity. Candidates are typically looking to masculinize or feminize one or more of the following features:

The Plastic Surgery Center offers confidential gender-affirming body procedure consultations at all of our locations. Overall, the goal of a consultation for gender affirmation body procedures is to provide you with the information you need to make an informed decision about whether the treatment is right for you, and to ensure that you are prepared both physically and emotionally for the process. During the consultation, your surgeon will thoroughly evaluate your medical history, mental health, and emotional support system in addition to your body, skin quality, and ongoing transition goals before recommending a treatment plan tailored to your needs.

What to Expect

All gender-affirming body procedures are performed under general or local anesthesia and usually don’t require an overnight stay. Depending on the size of the area being treated, the surgery will last one to five hours. Following surgery, you may have a surgical drain to remove blood and fluid.

You may also be asked to wear compression garments on the treated area. Soreness, swelling, tenderness, and bruising are expected and usually subside within several weeks. Most people can resume regular activities within 10 to 14 days, but should avoid strenuous activity for four to six weeks.

Recovery &
Results

The initial bruising and swelling that takes place following surgery typically begin to resolve within two weeks. Compression garments can usually be removed after six weeks. It can take up to six months to fully heal, but many patients see noticeable changes well before that time.

To maximize both recovery and results, closely follow your surgeon’s directions and attend follow-up appointments.
