The Plastic Surgery Center offers laser scar removal consultations at all of our locations. During the consultation, your surgeon will thoroughly evaluate your medical history, skin type, and scar. They will use this information to determine whether you’re a good candidate for laser scar removal and how many sessions you may need.

What to Expect

Laser scar removal is an in-office procedure. The specialist will use the PicoWay™ or Alma Dye VL™ laser system to emit a beam on the surface of the scar. The energy from the laser breaks down scar tissue and triggers the production of new, healthy skin.

Our team also offers laser scar resurfacing with a high-energy erbium laser. During this procedure, the layer of skin over the scar is removed, and new skin is exposed. Your skin may start regenerating as soon as four days following treatment.

During laser scar removal, you and your technician will wear protective eyewear. A numbing cream or local anesthetic can be used around the scar area to minimize pain.

After the treatment, the specialist will apply an ointment and cover the area with a bandage. You may experience redness and a stinging sensation in the treated area, but these symptoms resolve within a few hours. Normal activities can be resumed immediately following the treatment.

Recovery &
Results

The initial swelling and itching that takes place following laser scar removal typically begin to resolve within one week. Full healing can take two to three weeks. For optimal results, you may require multiple treatments based on the location and degree of scarring. It may take several months for full results to be apparent after the final treatment.

To maximize healing, recovery, and results, protect your skin from natural and artificial sunlight, avoid smoking, and closely follow aftercare instructions.
